February 3, 2026 by alexhang

UCLA VAST Lab would like to congratulate its former member Prof. Deming Chen (advised by Prof. Jason Cong) for being elected to ACM Fellow.  Deming received his PhD in 2005, he is currently the Abel Bliss Professor of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a globally recognized leader in reconfigurable computing and AI accelerator design. His pioneering contributions span synthesis algorithms, high-level synthesis, and customizable AI accelerator methodologies, with foundational advances that have significantly influenced both academia and industry. Deming’s work has led to widely adopted tools, open-source frameworks, and commercial technologies, earning numerous best paper awards, two ACM SIGDA TCFPGA Hall-of-Fame papers, and broad industrial impact. Beyond research, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership through major academic–industry initiatives, editorial stewardship, and community service, shaping the future of reconfigurable computing and AI hardware systems.

Congratulations to Deming for this outstanding achievement!  We are very proud of you.
